Sickularism of our speudo-secularists

Those who opposed the Ayodhya temple movement, wore silence over the plight of Kashmiri Hindus, damaged the Ram Sethu [Images] and denied Lord Rama [Images] ever existed, denied the violence at the Godhra railway station, and embraced the butchers of 1984, are collectively gunning at Varun Gandhi's [Images] political life.
Column after column by Padma Shris in the media have created an atmosphere where supporting Varun has become a sin. Why? The simple reason is that the farmhouse of Gandhi-Nehru politics has been broken and a scion of the family chose to speak out as his conscience directed.
More than what Varun said or didn't say, it is the hurt and bewilderment over the loss of a Gandhi to the saffron brigade that has made the media and anti-Hindutva politicos react with such venom and acid. He was not heard, not given a chance to present his case, nor did forensic experts examine the so-called proof in the form of a CD containing his speech.
Varun has suddenly dwarfed the media-supported Rahul.
Nobody has ever heard a dynasty member to say with understandable assertion that he or she is a Hindu. Rather, they have always tried to look differently at things. They banned Hindu organisations, imposed the Emergency, removed basic human rights, never willingly facilitated the Sikh massacre probe, rewarded hardened criminals, made alliance with those who were convicted for murder or were facing scandalous charges, had the Muslim League join the government after Partition. Yet, they are nice, decent, peace-loving, patriotic democrats who love to tell others: 'Go read the Gita.'
When Indian soldiers were fighting Pakistani marauders in 1947, we didn't have enough jeeps. So orders were placed with the British company and supply demanded immediately. Our high commissioner in London [Images] V K Krishna Menon, Pandit Nehru's [Images] blue-eyed boy, messed it up. The jeeps reached a year late.
That was the first scandal in independent India.

We lost Gilgit, Baltistan and Skardu. We lost Aksai Chin because the government in New Delhi [Images] didn't know the exact boundaries and so no patrolling was being done there. In all we have lost 125,000 square km to the Pakistanis and Chinese during Congress rule.

Plus we had a bad dream called 1962.
At that time our ordnance factories were making coffee machines as Pandit Nehru openly argued against having a well-equipped large army for defence. 'Who is going to attack us?' he would ask.
And people still remember the mysterious death of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, who simply wanted Kashmir to be a part of India like Bihar or Bengal and the permit system to enter the valley be abolished. Kashmir had two rulers then, its ruler was called Sadr e Riyasat or 'head of state', and it had a prime minister. Mookerjee's martyrdom compelled the Nehru government to remove the permit system and the two heads of state.

Then we had the Mundhra scandal, the Nagarwala case, the L N Mishra murder. The Jana Sangh's fast-emerging leader Deendayal Upadhyaya was murdered. A Congress leader canvassed openly against the official Presidential candidate and supported her own choice as independent nominee. The original Congress symbol was a pair of oxen. After the official Congress broke up, they got the hand as a temporary symbol till the case is finally settled. It would never be.

Opposing Sonia Gandhi's [Images] sudden rise in politics only on the grounds of her foreign origin were leaders like Sharad Pawar [Images] and P A Sangma. Old Congressmen still feel sad that they lost dynamic and promising leaders of substance like Rajesh Pilot, Madhavrao Scindia and Jitendra Prasada, who could have steered the Congress on an entirely different and strong nationalist course. And a veteran like Sitaram Kesri was humiliated no end.

They deserved to be comforted most after a fractured independence and a massacre that was thrust upon them by a weak Congress leadership. Yet, a large section of Hindus today feel cheated and anguished.

They form governments in 12 states, prove they can run the country beautifully with a coalition of 25 parties with diametrically opposed ideologies. And one of their Swayamsewaks unfurled the tricolour six times from the ramparts of the Red Fort [Images] as the prime minister, impressed world leaders and the international media with a record of infrastructure-building, communication revolution and women's empowerment, chose a Muslim to be the President and conducted Pokhran II by fooling the CIA's 'eyes', and resisted extraordinary world pressure and sanctions.

Yet, they are called anti-development, anti-women, even anti-social. In not a single so-called mainstream media outlet are their views published, but every news item is scanned to hurl stones on them through editorialising on the front-page.

Still, they are the very objective face of our independent media.

The choicest abuses used by 'decent guarantors of the freedom of expression' columnists and editorial-writers can be collected as a bouquet of India's uncivilised lexicon, yet their films against the very spirit of Hindu nature get widely supported by a regime that survives on Hindu money and votes.

Their love for development and secularism is so deep that they can send dredgers to destroy a million years of faith and marine life because that was Ram Sethu, but won't dare to touch a six feet by six feet dargah in the middle of the road blocking the highway and causing accidents, for fear of annoying a vote-bank.

And then they say, they are the future of India.

BANE OF BEING A HINDU

"To kill a mocking bird : Bane of being Hindu

The country’s politics has become minority centric. This facet comes into sharper focus at the time of election because that is the occasion to decide the destiny of the country. Varun Gandhi would have got away unnoticed had he said all that he had allegedly said to protect the Muslims or even a Kasab, Shahabuddin or Mohammad Afzal instead of the Hindus. The issue is not the use of religion in politics but the use of wrong religion on a right occasion.

If Sonia Gandhi goes to Tirupati, or Guruvayoor—these temples are not open to non-Hindus and after her visit the temple priests conduct elaborate purification rites—though she is a Catholic it is not for vote but a generous fashion parade of secularism. Look at the Congress manifesto. Or the Trinamool Congress manifesto. Both have chapter and verses of promises for specific religious groups(not Hindu) and by all interpretations the crux of their promise is a separate religious charter exclusively to woo minority vote bank. (This is a clear violation of the Constitution.) Not only that. They are highly patronising to terrorists. The Congress manifesto claims to have defanged the security forces fighting terror by repealing POTA. The Congress manifesto was released on the day twelve brave Indian soldiers lost their lives in Kashmir fighting the Lashkar infiltrators. The country has lost over 7000 innocent citizens in terror attacks in the last five years as part of the Jehadi design to inflict a thousand cuts to destroy India. But the Congress manifesto is silent on fighting terror. Rather it claims terrorists have no religion. Terror patrons in the country are honourable men. They are the torch-bearers of secularism.

The Congress is openly seeking the support of ulemas of Deoband, Jamaat-e-Islami and Maulavis of Bahralvi, Imam of Jama Masjid and Bangladeshi infiltrators on purely communal lines. But neither the Election Commission nor the media accuses it of communal politics. The media does not expose them either. In Mizoram, Nagaland and other North-eastern states, the Congress plays Christian card promising the land of the Bible, but it gets away in the name of secularism. Any number of Bishops have written to the Congress high command demanding tickets for their nominees and many of them were given ticket.

More blatant is the crass minorityism cynically being promoted by the CPI(M), Samajwadi Party, BSP and others. CPM’s closest ally in Kerala is Madani, a religious fanatic whose links with various terrorist incidents in the country is well-known. Another fanatic leader who wants to introduce shariat in the country, Kantapuram Musaliar is a bosom ally who is canvassing for the CPM. All these people are known for their communally charged vitriol.

A report from Uttar Pradesh said the Samajwadi Party and BSP together have fielded nearly fifty candidates with serious criminal record, mostly from the minority community and it is likely as many as two dozen of them would enter Lok Sabha. The Samajwadi Party which defended terrorists from Azamgarh who attacked Delhi and insulted the memory of the slain police officer MC Sharma by offering his widow a fake cheque has no qualms about its crass communal politics. All these go scot-free not only because the Constitutional authorities are biased, but also because the political milieu in the country is such that only the word “Hindu” is objectionable and communal.

For people holding Constitutional posts their religion comes first, if they are not Hindu. Vice President A R Ansari recently advocated separate budgetary provision for Muslims. Nobody objected. Perhaps he was not satisfied with Sachar Committee, separate ministry, quota and scholarship for Muslims. But even a “Hindu” tag is detrimental to a person’s political progress. We have seen it at the time of Presidential election when both Shivraj Patil and Dr. Karan Singh were rejected only because they happened to have a Hindu tag. If Varun Gandhi had spoken in the name of any particular caste, then also no charge-sheet would have been filed. After all caste politics also is passé.

Varun is the first Gandhi to declare that he is a proud Hindu. So he is in trouble. Tomorrow if he joins the SP, BSP or Congress he will immediately be paraded as a secular messiah. It would become natural, that the scion of the Nehru-Gandhis has returned to where he belonged, the pro-establishment media will take no time singing paeans for him. For instance, they have no quarrel with Narayan Rane, Chagan Bhujbal or even Raj Thackarey all former Shivsainiks who were riled by the media as long as they were in the Shiv Sena.

The point is that all the breast beating and moral indignation and trial by media are exclusively reserved for the BJP. It is because Varun is the BJP candidate. The model code of conduct has been specially sharpened and imposed retrospectively with the Election Commission working overtime. The alleged speech actually was made weeks before the code came into operation. The EC has always displayed a double standard in the case of the BJP and other parties. This we have seen during the Gujarat assembly election when it acted hastily in the complaint against Narendra Modi even as it let Sonia Gandhi off the hook with her mout ka saudagar innuendo. “We are testing the waters” a senior EC official reportedly said of EC’s advice to the BJP asking it to drop Varun as a candidate. It is a dangerous precedent it was trying to push. The EC cannot have been more careless with the choice of words. Did it intent to intimidate the party into following a particular line? The EC has not taken a view on complaints filed many days before the complaint against Varun was filed. It is similarly slow and silent—the media is equally co-operative by indifference—on all other instances of violations. But the EC was “seized” of the Varun case ever since it came to light. And when the Commission pronounced its order one channel claimed credit for the “impact” its expose had. Advising Varun on reading Bhagwat Gita Priyanka Vadra Gandhi was repeatedly shown as coming out of a Hanuman temple as if that was of essence. If a non-Hindu pretending to be a religious Hindu goes to temple on poll eve it is only to hoodwink the voter. Gita of course is not a treatise on pacifism for Priyanka to advise Varun to read it. It can only strengthen his conviction. It is more a doctrine of war against evil, to protect one’s dharma even if that brings death. Perhaps Ms Vadra might have thought the Gita read like the Bible.

It is time Sonia Gandhi and her family declared their faith. A Nehru-Gandhi in the eye of the dominant establishment in the country can be a Catholic, a Parsi, an atheist or a Muslim and they will automatically be declared “secular” by the servile, obnoxiously bootlicking media. But to be a Hindu is blasphemous. They bay for blood. They want the abrupt termination of a budding political career, they are so unforgiving, vindictive, vengeful and mercilessly cruel.

Varun's reported views can also be taken as a first mistake of an over-enthusiastic debutant politician. Should a promising young career be so cruelly nipped in the bud invoking even the name of his father who was tragically killed orphaning him when he was only two months? Our chattering class like the proverbial wolf wants to punish him for the alleged omissions and commissions of his father also. Like a lynch mob they create the macabre atmospheric for the partisan establishment to convict and crucify. So we stand by anybody and everybody who speak for the Hindu. Because we want to make Indian polity Hindu centric. "...Editorial, Organisar, 05/04/2009

xplore Karnataka Today!

Karnataka is an enchanting land abounding in scenic beauty, rich is flora and fauna. It has pomp and pageantry of glorious traditions and marvels of modern engineering.

The State Cabinet, which has decided to bring tourist activities under the priority sector, has come out with a host of new plans including offering government land to entrepreneurs at 50 per cent of the market value to establish resorts and privatising the managements of government guest houses. This was decided in April 2002. The government would be creating infrastructure in tourist places so that entrepreneurs could open resorts, hotels, amusement parks etc. One of the major attractions offered to entrepreneurs was to make available government land in all places barring in Bangalore City, at 50 per cent of the market value for opening resorts/hotels and for carrying out tourist related activities. The Tourism Department would be identifying the government land available. If entrepreneurs fail to implement their plans within a stipulated time, then the government would forfeit the land. The government would be offering four per cent tax concession for three years on aviation fuel to encourage domestic aviation industries to operate flights to district headquarters in the State. The government would be underwriting certain number of tickets so that the industries would have assured revenue.

The government would be using airstrips in Bidar, Belgaum, Hubli, Mangalore, Bellary and Harihar. The air strips in Mysore and Gulbarga would be strengthened and the government will also build airstrips in Bijapur, Raichur, Karwar, Shimoga and Gulbarga. Nandi Hills, Bridavan Gardens, Kemmanagundi, Jog Falls, Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal, Belur & Halebedu, Shravanabelagola, Bijapur, Hampi, Gokarna and Karwar would be treated as major tourist spots. The government would be developing Bangalore as a tourist destination by promoting adventure sports, creating high-end accommodation and allowing private parties to manage tanks like Ulsoor, Sankey, Madiwala, Bellandur etc.

Karnataka's manifold attractions include everything that interests the tourists. The wild game sanctuaries at Bandipur, Nagarhole and Dandeli, the Ranganathittu Bird's Sanctuary. 5 Kms from Srirangapatna which is itself a well known tourist center, hill stations like Nandhi Hills and Kemmannagundi and Mercara, beach resorts like Karwar, Ullal, Malpe and Maravanthe, the world famous Brindavan Gardens at Krishnarajasagara, the monolithic statue of Gommateshwara at Sharavanabelagola, Gol Gumbaz with its whispering gallery at Bijapur, the Jog falls and other water falls at Shiva Samudram, Magod, Unchelli or Lushington near Siddapur, Lalguli at Yallapur and other places indicate the variety and richness of the attractions that Karnataka State holds out to the tourists.

There are many places of historic and religious importance. The great Acharyas, Shankara, Ramanuja and Madhwa, preached in this region. Great reformers like Sri Basaveshwara, mathematicians like Baskaracharaya, commentators like Sayana, saint poiets like Purandaradasa and Kanakadasa, great writers like Pampa, Harihara and Kumara Vyasa have all enriched the heritage of Karnataka.

The temples at Aihole, Badami and Pattadakal in Bijapur district have great significance for all lovers of art. The temples of Halebedu, Belur and Somanathapura are great architectural achievements - the like of which are rarely seen in any part of the world.

The profusion of artistic skill is bewildering in its range and exquisiteness. At Hampi [Bellary district] one can see Indian sculpture in all its richness and vitality.

The Muslims and Christians in ages past have made no mean contribution to the enrichment of art and architecture in Karnataka. The Gol Gumbaz and Ibrahim-Roza at Bijapur, the Daria Daulat Bagh (Summer Palace) of Tippu Sultan at Srirangapatna, the Khwaja Bandenawaz Darga at Gulbarga are someof their remarkable contributions. The churches at Mysore, Mangalore, Bangalore and Bijapur indicate the contribution of Christians to the great repertoire of Karnataka's culture. With all these manifold attractions a visit to Karnataka State is always memorable.

In August 2004, the State Government decided to form Kaginele Development Authority (KDA) to protect all the monuments and the documents related to Kanaka Das. KDA will be formed on the lines of Koodal Sangam Development Authority which was formed to save and protect all the monuments of 12th Century. Also, Kaginele, which is the birth place of Kanaka Das a great saint from Kuruba community, will be developed. The govt has decided to form Basava Kalyan Development Authority to protect the ruins of 12th Century.

Tourist information on Karnataka is now available across the country over a toll-free telephone number. The toll free number is 1-600-44-1414 and the service is provided nine hours a day, from 09:00 hrs (IST) 18:00 hrs (IST) round the year. The office is closed on Tuesdays.
